Spiritual Abuse

​Spiritual abuse is defined as a form of emotional and psychological abuse characterized by a systematic pattern of coercive and controlling behavior within a religious context. This abuse may involve manipulation, exploitation, enforced accountability, censorship of decision-making, secrecy requirements, coercion to conform, misuse of sacred texts or teachings, enforced obedience, claims of divine authority, punitive isolation, and adult clergy sexual abuse.
